Duncan Ross McLarty (Liberal) April 1, 1947 to February 23, 1953
Sir Ross McLarty, as he was known, saw active service in World War 1 in France and was a major in the Volunteer Defence Corps in World War II.
He was awarded the Military Medal in 1918.
He was born in Pinjarra where his Scottish grandfather had settled and where his father also was born. His long association with the district led to his active interest in its development.
He won the seat of Murray-Wellington in 1930 for both the Nationalist and Liberal parties.
He spent most of his political life in Opposition and was only appointed leader of the Liberal Party in 1946. He led the party to victory the following year and became Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Forests and the North-West and Housing.
He was defeated six years later and held the post of Opposition leader for another year.
He resigned from the Assembly in 1962 after 32 years as the member for Murray and died suddenly seven months later in Pinjarra.
