OUTREACH PROGRAMS
CHOGM 2011
Years 6 & 7 and Years 8, 9 & 10
The program was developed because the CHOGM meeting was held in WA in October 2011. It looks at what is the Commonwealth, what is CHOGM, what does it do and how does it do it. This program is linked to the United Nations Millennium Goals and we then go on to look at some of the issues for various Commonwealth countries. We do this via a Bingo style game. Students work in pairs with a country and its issues. The culmination will be looking at the groupings of issues eg. Global warming – countries in Oceania, child health – particularly African nations. There will be teachers’ notes linking to the Outcome statements.
The program is also available as a LOAN BOX PROGRAM for regional and remote schools
The Constitutional Centre of Western Australia, has developed a number of loan boxes for use by schools in the remote and regional areas of the State. These boxes are available for a period of one month – free of charge.
Although we have some presenters based in a number of major regional centres around the state we are unable to cover all areas. In an attempt to provide a service to areas we cannot physically reach we have developed programs with materials that can be used by teachers in their own classroom to achieve the civics outcomes.
Each kit contains a complete program with an interactive activity and teacher’s notes.
Bookings are essential.
