What resources can The Constitutional Centre provide to support teachers?
The Constitutional Centre of Western Australia - the only one of its kind in Australia - provides a unique opportunity for everyone to examine their political inheritance and understand how they can make a contribution to the State's democratic development.
We are here to help you learn about your systems of government and how you can participate.
Deciding on a visit
By bringing your class on a visit to the Centre you can explore how government works and how each individual is important in the electoral and parliamentary system that forms our democracy.
Program content ranges from colonisation to our modern system of government, Western Australia's fight for self-government, the Federation of Australia and constitutional reform.
Our Programs will:
- Provide expert resources and programs to support your society & environment, politics, history and legal studies classes
- Cater for the needs of students from junior primary to Year 12
- Provide experienced educators to work with you to develop a program that meets the needs of your class
- Enable you to fulfil the aims of the Curriculum Framework at both primary and secondary level
- Provide activities that will support achievement of the Outcome Statements in the learning areas of:
- Active Citizenship
- Investigation Communication and Participation,
- Culture,
- Time, Continuity & Change
- Natural and Social Systems
In addition to class visits we offer:
- School professional development days
- Teaching Resource packs (with ideas & activities) to complement each program.

- Special exhibitions (eg Behind the Lines)

Entry
Admission to the Centre and all Education Services are free but prior booking is essential.
Resources
Free education kits can be downloaded or contact us and we will send you one.
Parking
Parking bays are provided for school buses in Havelock Street at the front of the Centre. Metered parking is available in Havelock Street and Parliament Place.
Electoral Education Centre
Bookings are essential
Co-located with the Constitutional Centre, the Electoral Education Centre offers an ideal teaching resource for primary, secondary and adult students alike. Visitors to the Centre can typically enjoy:
- An innovative and entertaining audio-visual presentation
- A polling place where students can take part in a mock election
- A comprehensive interactive series of displays and exhibits where students complete activity sheets.
Presentation can be modified to reflect your subject requirements such as Local, State or Federal Governments.
The programs are designed to assist teachers achieve desired outcomes.

Parliament of Western Australia

Located near the Constitutional Centre, the Parliamentary Education Office runs exciting and innovative interactive role-play education programs for students studying politics and government.
